I’m pretty sure that everyone in the netospere has heard of the new bill that congress might pass as early next year. If you’re like me, or the other thousands of people who don’t suck corporate cock, you are probably against the bill in its entirety. For those who don’t exactly have an idea of the relevancy of this bill, here’s a synopsis of what’ll happen if SOPA ever gets passed.

• Infringe your first amendment right.
• Censor the internet.
• Shut down gaming channels (machinima, Roosterteeth, IGN).
• Shut down torrent sites (Pirate Bay).
• Shut down file sharing sites (mediafire, Megaupload).
• Shut down your favorite image sharing sites (yfrog, photobucket, flickr).
• Put innocent people in jail.

Yes, that last bullet is true; the bill will put innocent people in jail. Normal people like you and I could be subjected to imprisonment by doing everyday things we do in the internet. This could be by posting a cover song on Youtube, uploading a let’s play, or even doing a game/video review can land you 5 years in the slammer. This is nuts. This of course only covers the superficial side of the bill, it’s a deep and complex law that should be looked over by everyone who cares about the internet.

The bill is a loophole by corporate poop to take away due process in the way they handle piracy issues. They would be able to take down sites without the proper steps. It takes away the sense of self-responsibility of everyone in the internet. In example, we’ll use the recent Megaupload scandal that took place recently.

Megaupload was taken down by Universal Music Group for the reasons that “…the site is a place to download thousands and thousands of pirated music.” Do you see the problem with this picture? They held the site responsible for the crimes of its user that didn’t have anything to do with the site! What the hell is that all about? If you still don’t get what I’m talking about, I’ll do an analogy that TotalHalibut said on his channel in relationship to this issue. It would be as if a guy driving a Toyota hit someone, and the person who got hit, sued and took down Toyota as a whole. The analogy may seem abysmal to you, but this is the perfect comparison of what will happen if SOPA gets passed. Please stand up against this bill like thousands of people have already done. This bill must be buried.

Others have written and made videos about the issue, I implore everyone to read/watch most of them to get a clearer picture of the bill is all about. The bill stops internet innovation. Do you remember the first time Youtube was released? Do you remember the first time Facebook was released? Yeah, SOPA strips us of that innovation. Even investors now are stating that they wouldn’t want to invest in a new internet media outlet if this bill gets passed.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the main point of the blog. Sorry, I told you this blog gets a little bit ranty. I just found a list of the main companies who support the bill, and I encourage each and everyone of you to refrain using media from these bastards. Well that’s a little too much; you can use their media, but make sure you pirate it. hehehe.
